We left Heidelberg, on a sunny day at the
beginning of June, and after a short trip, we reach Wiesloch, and then Rauenberg where the country hides southern Germany best battalion’s lair: it’s
Busters, home.
After the usual 4 or 5 u-turns,
we finally reach the right way and reach our goal. In a very quite
road, in the middle of a nice and clean houses, we reach the
Busters-Haus. To be sure, we ask a guy who’s walking out of the
house. Must have seen this man before. It’s Stephan, Busters number 12. Once we got
in the house we happen to be in front of a stairs that brings us to
the higher places…. Walls are covered with Busters posters and chessboard
style posters. A real Ska-House!!
Upstairs, lying on a bed and
chest bared, looking like Gladiator himself, there’s Peter “Quitte", number 4.
I’ve already met him at a Skatalites show in Mannheim and even the day before at a Mark
Foggo show. His summertime look is in the Busters new single’s style.
We’re also here for that. Gotta listen to the new stuff.
We all place on a nice balcony for a good talk, while
we finally listen to their new single. It’s in German has a real
summer attitude. Look at the review in the Riddim
Reviews
section. One of the great things of being Busters guests, is that we had the chance to look over loads
of cool things, like the Japan edition of Boost
Best.
Sony
released the album but they don’t know how the record sold in the
land of the rising sun.
And while the sound of
“Liebe macht Blind" makes us feel like summer is knocking
at the door, discussion goes thru the new methods of downloading music
from the internet in the MP3 format. Peter’s view is quite bitter.
To the Busters, and to lots of other
bands, these programs, as well as CD recorders, means reduction of
their albums sales. And this for a band that works day and night and
can’t make a living out of technological progress is not such a
great thing.
Fischi
comes in, he’s number 8. Hugs and kisses and...big
surprise! He’s got the new Busters video, out of the
single. It’s just been shot. We have to watch it!!
There’s the whole lot
of the band, all 12 of ‘em, dressed up in style, sitting on the
beach while Farin Urlaub (that in German stands
for something like “Going on holidays") tries to catch a gorgeous
blonde girl, while clashing with some beach style macho. Farin Urlaub is the leader of a
famous German punk band, Die
Ärzte.
Them and the Busters have been touring together and they might have been influenced by the
catchy “two-tone" rhythms. Anyway, this guy really wanted to play
this summer song with the Busters and that’s what he did.
Rolf, number 10, gets near with
walking on crutches; I shoot some more pics, so to violate their
privacy.
Then, after having sacked
posters and CDs from the Busters home, it’s time to refresh our throats at the local Biergarden, a real
German institution. So there we are…. Relaxing and not that much
rude.
